A kayaker captured the incredible moment a curious sea lion leapt for joy inches away from his craft.
The adorable pup stalked and splashed the group of kayakers for several miles, off the shore of Stewart Island, New Zealand, during an annual row around the coast. Less than a mile from land, Barry Hosking and Ed Parker found themselves surrounded by the hyperactive mammal, who couldn’t stop leaping joyfully around their yellow vessels in a splashing spectacular.
Lurking behind Parker’s kayak and spinning around in circles, suddenly the nosy mammal rides a wave towards Hosking, launching itself high over the front of his one-man boat in a remarkable fashion. The camera even captures the pup with a cheeky grin.

Speaking to Caters News, Hosking said: “This is undoubtedly an experience I’ll recall for the rest of my life.”
