Eyewear brand Melon Optics, have just announced plans to launch the world’s first custom biking goggles, suitable for both mountain and motocross bikers. Founded by British expat James Pointer in June 2013 through a love for the outdoors and a frustration with overpriced and underperforming sunglasses and goggles, the brand currently offer a range of fully customisable sunglasses and snow goggles. However, after receiving multiple requests, they have launched plans to create a bike specific range of goggles known as Parker MX.
Revealing that the initial plans and design for the project took the team almost two years to complete, Pointers said “we’re stoked to finally share the final product: The ‘Parker MX’ goggle, a goggle that truly performs on every ride and can be fully customised to suit your style.
The goggles are fully customisable via an online customiser, whereby consumers can design the goggles from an ever-growing selection of 6 frame colours, 8 straps and 5 lenses. Each goggle comes with Lexan lenses, Amplify Lens™ technology and UV-400 protection which ensures the user gets a great range of vision and protects their eyes whilst in use.
Similarly the goggles are fitted with a Smart 360 Venting System which prevents lens fog, as well as a Switchfast™ strap system meaning the user can adjust the strap in seconds and easily change the goggle’s design on the fly.
When asked why the team wanted to create a customisable bike goggle, Pointers explained “We’re bringing fun to the table, looking outside the box and letting you choose how your goggle or sunglasses look, rather than us. We’ll be starting with 240 custom frame / strap / lens combinations for the Parker MX and growing that number quickly. We’ve already got some really nice patterns and colour-ways that we’re lining up for next season, which we can’t wait to drop.”
After successfully running a kickstarter campaign to launch their snow goggle range, the team are returning to kickstarter and have recently launched a campaign to fund their bike goggle range. They are aiming to raise £15,000 in the next month to help with manufacturing cost and their initial launch. At present the Parker MX will retail for £45/ $59.99.
