Earlier this year we spoke about a new ski website that could enhance group skiing holidays. The British website, RopedUp.com, which was launched in Beta from last winter, was designed to connect skiers and snowboarders of a similar ability and simplify the way ski instruction and guiding bookings were made.
After testing the platform, the website is now back with a new improved format for the 2017/18 snow season.
Users can make an online booking with top ski schools and guides on the website, and then, if they want, list their booking on RopedUp’s searchable bank of groups. Other users can then browse the listings and request to join suitable groups, and split the costs of the booking.
The website’s aim is not only to encourage more social ski days but also to give people the chance to save hundreds of euros and access tuition, through sharing a booking. Importantly there’s no obligation to accept anyone into the booking, so there’s no harm in the creator giving it a try and seeing who might be around to share the cost with them.
Because users can make informed decisions about who they will be skiing with, and therefore ensure well matched groups, the platform allows users to create their own profiles. These indicate their level of skiing, their past experience and what kind of skiing/boarding they enjoy, such as bumps, off-piste, red runs, or even long lunches.
This winter Roped Up will initially be available in four leading resorts—Chamonix, Verbier, Méribel and Val d’Isère—and further destinations will be added throughout the season. If you’re heading to The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show 2018 in Battersea Park from October 26-29, there will be a chance to meet the creators in the dedicated Technology section.
In principle, this website appears to offer a very useful and unique service. If you’re planning to use it this season, let us know how you get on.
