During a recent trip to Bali, professional free-diver Adam Stern captured incredible footage of himself and his friends exploring a sunken shipwreck. Wearing just board shorts and a snorkel, Stern glides through the water as he explores the ship—holding his breath the entire time.
Boga Wreck
Situated at around 35 metres deep, the Boga Wreck was actually purposefully sunk in 2011 to form an artificial reef. It attracts a wide array of marine life including moray eel and, lionfish, and is a haven for divers.
However, the four-time Australian Record Holder looks at home at these depths as he gracefully swims around the wreck. That’s not surprising given this champion can dive to 104 metres on one breath.
Freediving
Alongside competing in freediving competitions around the world, Stern also runs freediving courses and regularly posts tutorials on his YouTube channel. He posted the complete video of his dive after teaching an eight-day freediving course in Bali.
Speaking of the experience, he said:
Freediving this wreck was such a treat. I haven’t dived many wrecks that were so complete and whole as the Boga wreck. It even had a car wreck inside the hold!
We had stunning conditions and visibility for the dive as well which is always a bonus. The wreck starts at about 20 metres deep and goes to around 35 metres deep which I loved because it means that not many freedivers have been there before.
