The concept behind the Lopifit emerged when founder, Bruin Bergmeester, was running on his treadmill in his garage, wondering “How can I use this treadmill to travel outdoors? What about a treadmill on wheels?” After several years experimenting on a design, Bruin created his innovation which he called the Lopifit. We spoke to the team at Lopifit to find out more about this new way to travel!
1. Tell us about the Lopifit.
The Lopifit is an innovative way to get from A to B. Walking at a regular pace and reaching speeds up to 25 km per hour! The Lopifit has been designed to get you up on your feet and travel larger distances in less time. Never before has it been so fun to walk and get around easily. The Lopifit supports your natural stance and comes with all the health benefits related to walking.
The electric walking bike is a combination between a kickbike and a treadmill. Because of the battery and electrical engine you can walk on the treadmill and move forward at speeds similar to a bike. The brakes shut down the electrical circuit and shut down the power supply, making the belt stop moving. You can also shift between 6 gears so that you can adjust your speed accordingly.
2. How did you create it?
Bruin Bergmeester, the founder of Lopifit, had the idea to get his treadmill outside and moving and this inspired him to build an electric walking bike. He calculated, tested and adjusted the bike based on his findings. It was a process of fine tuning and looking for the best results. The final product ended up being the one Bruin used for going to work and back. His dream of an electric walking bike came to life!
3. How long does the motor last and how long does it take to re-charge?
The Lopifit has an action radius of 60 km. Charging till full battery takes 3-4 hours.
4. Who is your target audience? What market do you see Lopifit in?
We don’t have a specific target group. The Lopifit is a very interesting concept for people of all age groups and cultures, anyone who likes new technologies, walking, cycling and those that want a new way to stay active, healthy and explore the outdoors. There are also people with physical difficulties who now use the Lopifit as a new way to be mobile.
5. Where are you currently selling the product? Do you have plans to expand distribution?
We are selling the Lopifit all over the world. Our plan was to start in The Netherlands and then progress to Germany, Belgium and other European countries.
6. How have consumers reacted to Lopifit so far?
Bruin started using it to walk to work and back. People noticed his strange looking “bike”. A local TV station interviewed him and the video got shared worldwide. More than 80 million people have seen his invention. Worldwide people have shown us great support and customer feedback. Without social media we would have never been where we are now.
Now there are Lopifit users all over the world: Qatar, US, Thailand, UK, Australia, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia. In all countries the reactions are the same: amazing. People like the Lopifit because of its unicity and the enjoyment factor.
